A few days ago, I dropped by a convenience store to buy something. I laid down my take-out coffee that I brought to take out money from my wallet. For the moment, the clerk picked up my take-out coffee to find the barcode, but he spilled the coffee because it wasn’t wrapped. I realized that it was his old habits from his job finding a barcode thousands of times in a day. My take-out coffee was spilt over the counter but I smiled because this happening made me look myself back.
I also have old habits as I am working in this industry for 20 years so that sometimes I pushed our subcontractors |
and staffs to bring out the perfect results. Even if it is a minor part of a whole processing, I have always checked it again and again not to make any mistakes.
Last year, MECI has invited over 8,500 participants from all over the worlds and successfully have won the major bids such as IFOS2013 and ICAAP2011. I believed all the things we achieved last year were result of the impressive dedication and contribution of all MECI people.
I will keep my old habits and do better MECI.
Thank you for all your cooperation.

MECI is selected as an official PCO for ‘2014 International Congress of Mathematics (ICM)’, and it is a large-scale international conference in basic science and often called ‘Olympics of Mathematics.”
ICM held in every four years by IMU(international mathematical Union) has longest history of 112 years in basic science, and it has been held in Japan, China, and India among Asian countries. There are 4000 mathematicians from over 100 countries, and it is especially famous for Fields Medal which is like the Novel Prize in Mathematics given to the President of the hosting country. Moreover, it is known for the bridge to the developed country of science.
For example, the authority of this conference was shown that Jiang Zemin, the president of |
China, attended the opening ceremony for full three hours in 2002 and the king of Sweden himself chaired a meeting in 2006.
MECI had successful experience to hold “2008 World Congress of Philosophy”, and also has been preparing for The XIXth Congress of the International Comparative Literature Association(ICLA) in 2010 as a head PCO in Korea. |

IAPCO member MECI, of Seoul, Korea, is clearly worthy of its ‘International’ label, having recently won a series of major bids.
Within the past 12 months, the 20th World Congress of the International Federation of Otorhinolaryngological Societies (IFOS), the 10th International Congress on Aids in Asia and the Pacific (ICAAP), and the 18th International Symposium on High Voltage Engineering (ISH2013) have all fallen under MECI’s professional spell and confirmed Korea as their destination.
“Other bids are in the pipeline,” said Bannie Kim, President of MECI, “and who knows by the time you read this article, we may well have added to the list!”

The importance of the PR activities cannot be underestimated. Like a marathon, it takes patience, stability, and a long time to prepare an International conference. In order to win the bid, we attend the relative International conferences as much as we can to raise our awareness and build up the favorite image of Korea. MECI’s PR activities have been taken an action in domestic as well as abroad. For examples, last September, we went to Morocco for 26th IUSSP International Population Conference to promote to hold the next conference in 2013 in Busan, Korea. Also the delegation of the Republic of Korea to 16th ITS World Congress held in Stockholm had an opportunity to publicize the 17th ITS World Congress Busan and Korean Culture. |

| International Federation of Oto-Rhino-Laryngological Societies (IFOS2013) |
 |
In June 2009, IFOS (International Federation of Oto-Rhino-Laryngological Societies) has selected Seoul, Korea as the next host city of IFOS World Congress which is going to be held in June 2013. This decision was made during the closing of the 19th World Congress in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Seoul edged out Singapore in the bidding for the 20th IFOS World Congress expected to draw participants from 100 member countries to the 2013 event.
Winning the bid for this event involved the efforts and enthusiasm of the Korean Otorhinolaryngology Society and the cooperation and expertise provided by the City of Seoul and the Seoul Tourism Organization's (STO) systematic bidding support system. |
|
| |
In addition, MECI, as the official PCO tried to be suitably qualified with joining IAPCO and ICCA so that MECI built the international network.
Unlike another congress, IFOS insist that the official PCO should be the member of the International association such as IAPCO and ICCA and they also consider PCO’s working experiences in advance.
When the IFOS World Congress steering committee visited to Seoul for the site inspection in 2007, they visited “12th World Conference on Lung Cancer” progressed by MECI and got impressed MECI’s professional.
A week before the IFOS2009 in Brazil, our former President Roh Moo-Hyun committed suicide, and North Korea launched missile and H1N1 (Swine Flu) notoriously continues to spread around the world. But we got over those difficulties and finally won the bid.
Although MECI doesn’t involve to organizing the IFOS 2013 from now on, we hope that it will be finished successfully and brings amazing result. |

|
|
firstly, Young Engineer Award with 10,000 dollars Korea proposed to support prominent young engineers which as did not exist never before in this conference, secondly ISH 2013 was very stabled financially showing attention of LS Group,
